Art Therapist and Counselor in Olympia

Beryl Olson, LMHCA, ATR-P

Hi there! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (License number MC70041176) and Provisional Registered Art Therapist based in Olympia, WA. Growing up as an undiagnosed autistic and ADHD queer person, I know what it’s like to feel like an outsider. Anxiety and masking became my life. I experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to find neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ affirming mental health providers.

These experiences inform my passion for mental health and my work as a therapist. Creative expression has been a powerful outlet throughout my personal and professional journey. I knew from a young age that I wanted to combine my creative side with my desire to help others. Through my training, I have seen how empowering, surprising, and enlightening art therapy can be for clients. I believe that by using creativity in therapy, clients can imagine and implement new possibilities for their lives.

Experience

I have experience providing individual counseling as well as group therapy. Previously, I’ve worked with clients in outpatient community mental health as well as an inpatient psychiatric hospital, giving me a breadth of experience with diverse populations.

My clinical work in these settings has taught me how to meet clients where they are at. Intersectionality—the interaction between a person or group’s social and political identities—is a vital part of understanding who a person is and how they interact with the world. I have and will continue to advocate for anti-racist, feminist, and disability justice practices.
