Telehealth and In-Person Art Therapy
When it comes to talking about difficult feelings and experiences, do words ever fail you?
Art therapy allows for non-verbal expression and deeper exploration.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a behavioral health service that combines psychotherapy and creative expression to support healing, self-understanding, and emotional processing. Sometimes words alone are not enough to express difficult feelings or experiences. Art therapy offers another way to explore emotions, tell your story, and better understand yourself in a supportive and nonjudgmental space.
Who can benefit from art therapy?
Art therapy can be helpful for people experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, trauma, burnout, perfectionism, identity-related stress, or difficulty expressing emotions. No artistic skill or experience is needed! The focus is not on creating “good” art, but on the process of expression, exploration, and reflection.
Art therapy is especially relevent for marginalized folks—empowering queer, BIPOC, trans, and neurodivergent voices through creative expression and art-based activism.
What does an art therapy session look like?
Sessions may include drawing, painting, collage, creative writing, journaling, music, movement, or other forms of creative expression alongside conversation and reflection.
Some sessions may focus more heavily on verbal therapy, while others may involve more hands-on creative exploration depending on your needs and comfort level.
Art therapy can also be adapted for telehealth sessions using accessible materials you already have at home.
