Telehealth Art Therapy in Washington State

When it comes to talking about difficult feelings and experiences, do words ever fail you?

Art therapy allows for non-verbal expression and deeper exploration.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a behavioral health service that combines psychotherapy and creative expression to support healing, self-understanding, and emotional processing. Sometimes words alone are not enough to express difficult feelings or experiences. Art therapy offers another way to explore emotions, tell your story, and better understand yourself in a supportive and nonjudgmental space.

Who Is Art Therapy For?

Art therapy can be helpful for people experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, trauma, burnout, perfectionism, identity-related stress, or difficulty expressing emotions. No artistic skill or experience is needed! The focus is not on creating “good” art, but on the process of expression, exploration, and reflection.

Art therapy can also offer space to explore how identity, culture, disability, gender, sexuality, and lived experience shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.

What does an art therapy session look like?

Sessions may include drawing, painting, collage, creative writing, journaling, music, movement, or other forms of creative expression alongside conversation and reflection.

Some sessions may focus more heavily on verbal therapy, while others may involve more hands-on creative exploration depending on your needs and comfort level.

Art therapy can also be adapted for telehealth sessions using accessible materials you already have at home.

Can You Do Art Therapy Online?

Yes! Art therapy can work well through telehealth, and you don’t need a full art studio or expensive supplies to participate. During online art therapy sessions, you can create using whatever materials you already have at home—such as paper, pencils, markers, paint, collage materials, or other supplies that feel comfortable and accessible to you.

If you prefer creating digitally, I also offer access to a secure digital art therapy platform at no additional cost. This allows us to create and explore artwork together online without requiring you to purchase art supplies.

Telehealth art therapy can also give you more choice over your creative environment. You can work with familiar materials, create from the comfort of your own space, and adapt the process to your sensory, physical, and creative needs. As with in-person art therapy, the focus isn’t on artistic skill or making something that looks a certain way—it’s about using the creative process in a way that feels meaningful to you.
